A lightbulb installed in 1901 still burns today
A lightbulb installed in 1901 at the fire department hose cart house in Livermore, California still burns today and is the longest ‘living’ lightbulb. The bulb has been turned off only a handful of times to move it. Due to its longevity, the bulb has been noted by The Guinness Book of World Records and Ripley’s Believe It or Not!
It is also called the Centennial Light and even has it’s own website and webcam. The Centennial Light is only a four-watt bulb, which is probably one of the reasons it can survive that long. Other factors influencing the longevity of the lightbulb are the perfect seal (maintaining the vacuum) and the fact that it isn’t turned on and off.
