Monday January 17 is the most depressing day of the year

The most depressing day of the year is Blue Monday

Monday january 17 is the so called ‘Blue Monday’; the most depressing day of the year.
Blue Monday is thought up for a publicity campaign of Sky Travel.
This date was published in a press release under the name of Cliff Arnall, at the time a tutor at the Centre for Lifelong Learning, a Further Education centre attached to Cardiff University.
Arnall says the date was calculated by using many factors, including: weather conditions, debt level (the difference between debt accumulated and our ability to pay), time since Christmas, time since failing our new year’s resolutions, low motivational levels and feeling of a need to take action.
This date allegedly falls on the fourth Monday of January, which is the 18th this year (2011).

You can celebrate new year’s eve twice in one night in Sweden

If you really like celebrating new year’s eve, you should travel to eastern Sweden, where New Year’s Eve can be celebrated twice in one night!
You can go to a place in Sweden where you can cross a bridge in 5 minutes to travel into another timezone and back in time 1 hour!

Haparanda, Sweden, lies right by the Swedish-Finnish river dividing the time zones of Sweden and Finland. This provides the unique opportunity to cross the bridge to the Finnish side of the river in just 5 minutes. The Finnish town of Tornio is located there. Tornio, Finland, is ahead in time. So, go ahead and celebrate New Year’s Eve with Finnish fireworks there first. Afterwards, you can simply drive back over the bridge to Sweden and enjoy another display of fireworks an hour later – this time, by the Swedes! Celebrate the Scandinavian new year here a second time in the same night.

An Olympic gold medal is 92.5 percent silver

The olympic gold medals are made of 92.5% silver.
The medals are designed by the Olympics Committee in each host city, but the designers have to follow a few minimum guidelines:

  • all medals must be at least 60mm in diameter and 3mm thick
  • gold and silver medals must be made from 92.5 percent silver
  • gold medals must be plated with at least six grams of gold.

Some medals for recent games have been larger. Like the 2002 Olympics in Salt Lake City. The gold and silver medals awarded there were the heaviest ever created, measuring 85mm in diameter and 10mm thick and weighing in at 20 ounces.
